Federation Collecting Historical Information on Oklahoma Jewish Families
The Oklahoma Museum of History, along with the Jewish Federation of Greater OKC, is looking for artifacts, documents, oral histories, journals, photographs, and other materials that reflect, honor, and commemorate the experiences and stories of the Jewish community and settlement in Oklahoma. The museum is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society.
Currently, Jewish history in Oklahoma is not thoroughly represented in the collections of the Historical Society and Museum. This effort is part of an ongoing agency prior to collect information and artifacts that reflect the richness and diversity of the Oklahoma experience.
If you have artifacts that you would like to share with the museum, please contact Mike Bell, Curator of Collections for the Oklahoma Museum of History, at 405-522-0789.
If you have archival information, documents, and/or photographs you would like to share, please contact Bill Welge, Director of the Research Center at the History Center, at 405-522-5206.
In order to expedite our collection and research capacities, the Jewish Federation would like to create an OKC Jewish Historical Society branch. This will allow us to have access to office and computer space at the museum with volunteer passes and to serve as an interface with those wishing to donate or share Oklahoma Jewish archival materials.
If you want to be part of this exciting project during Oklahoma's Centennial Year or would like more information, contact marcy@jfedokc.org.
