Jewish Federations Applaud the House Passage of the NSGP Improvement Act

Jewish Federations applaud the House passage of the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) Improvement Act, which extends authorization for this critical program protecting Jewish and other faith communities for five years and advanced as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The NSGP provides grants for houses of worship and other nonprofits to improve their physical security and readiness for potential attacks. Jewish Federations have been at the forefront of advocating for expanding program funding to $360 million to keep up with increasing needs in light of spiking antisemitism and violent extremism. In July, Federations led a multi-faith coalition letter advocating for advancing the legislation, which will make the program more efficient and accessible.

"The onslaught of antisemitic incidents and rise of violent domestic extremism our communities face is extremely troubling. We are grateful to Congress for working with us to strengthen the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which is a critical tool in our arsenal for securing communities of faith and helping us protect our houses of worship," said Jewish Federations SVP Public Affairs Elana Broitman.

Federations also applaud passage of the DEFEND act as part of the NDAA, a bipartisan, bicameral effort by the Abraham Accords Caucus to combat attacks from Iranian-backed extremists through air and missile defense capabilities. We urge the Senate to pass these crucial authorizations and President Biden to sign them into law.
